My Principles and my Beliefs

1)     The pigeons must execute every command of the pigeon keeper.

2)     Learn their schedule easily and quickly and not give a hard time.

3)     Be smart and not get lost.

4)     Be resistant during hard times and not change area easily. If they do change, they should have strength and courage to find their nest.

5)     During flight they should be aware of hawks and give one another the message for a change of flight.

6)     Fly spectacularly with open tail and angle of 80 degrees to their body, spread individually to all directions, do not rotate during lift off, dive vertically one by one without turning and create as much roar as possible.

7)     Be able to execute their schedule 5 to 6 times per day

8)     Should not age prematurely. Some pigeons by the second year have swollen noses and eyes, and their wings hang loose.

9)     Fly well at young age and perfect their behavior during the 1st year.

10) There are pigeons that are spectacular when they are young but unfortunately after changing feathers they cannot fly high again.

11) The team must fly spread but at the same height as possible.

12) They should be able to fly up at less than 3 minutes during calm weather (most people think that air lifts the birds up) its then when even they heave ones can fly up..

13) Dive hierarchically. In a good team some do the start, some follow at the middle and some do the finishing. This happens almost every time.

14) The good pigeon keepers’ do not fly two-by-two of three-by-three. Only keepers’ who have “dunekia” fly that way. Unfortunately the naive only see those two and think all of the keepers’ pigeons are like those two.

15) Unfortunately, we, the Greek pigeon keepers do not have pure Greek pigeons, which are called “vouta (dive)”. Most keepers’ have bred them with the Nikolawiev which are most spectacular but lost from the dive which also is also a great pleasure.

16) Since there are no standards we cannot know which pigeons are best. People who do not fly pigeons are able to come in contact with naive people through affiliates.

17) The pigeon most of the time are landed. So they must be pretty, as possible to light blue with well build bodies and feather and head proportions.
I
personally love pigeons with various colorings.

18) Pigeons are a product of their qualities and not a sum. For example it is not 10 for spectacle, 10 for spreading, 10 for the dive and that sums up to 30. It is 10x10x10=1000. If we have a zero (0) then the product is zero (0), so the pigeon is of no value, and it is better to have a decathlon athlete than 100m champion.

19) And an advice, «He who’s been around, knows».
It’s an honour for the keeper to be visited and enjoy the flying of the birds
with friends or just simple visitors. I am happy to know pigeon keepers from Tirnavo, Ampellona. Elassona, Katerini and other places.

20) Some people say that pigeons are only good when they are on the ground and not when they fly.

21) A friend of mine repeats: «don’t fly the pigeons, one will make a mistake, let the buyers use their imagination and build them as they wish ».

22) Unfortunately in Veria and other areas a good pigeon keeper is the one who can sell the birds at high prices and the one who can fly the birds the best way.

23) The ignorant pigeon keepers’ percent is about 95%. Those are the people who rate other pigeon keepers either as good or bad because they anticipate gainings (monetary or birds). Most of the times give credit to people with low quality birds while they blame others with quality birds since they are afraid of them.
