It is a well-known fact that pigeons fly extremely that we lose contact with them, we can't see them. This is something we ask to make sure they are able to do it and we are less interested in whether they can give a show or not strong pigeons can keep their positions even in such extreme heights while weaker pigeons fly in groups. There are also pigeons which can only give shows and are incapable of flying that higk, but even if they do it is almost certain that they will not come down again.

However this is not the problem. The disturbing thing is when people only look for a good show. It's more than that. We should also look for the combination of each pigeon's or group's dynamics.
In other words, we should pay attention to the way birds fall, how clever characteristics. Some pigeon keepers and their blame the birds that can fly very high and call them "simple" that way hiding their own weaknesses having only "spectacular" birds. One of the saddest things is that they even make jackets with the slogan "Spectacular pigeon keepers club".

I was lucky to meet some of the best pigeon keepers of the former generation, like Zisis Sabris, Gantris, Mantas and others in Tirnavos, a village near Larissa. Those men able to keep pigeons called "outsitiko" clean in times really difficult and hard.  And we, the younger generation have the ... the characterestics of the most known, pure and unique kind we inherited. Fortunately there some of us who are willing to make sactifices and work hard to keep the unique birds we inherited pure.

In places like Volos and Tirnavos they have succeeded in doing so by cleaning the weaker and less capable birds ensuring the survivor of only the best.
That way, 30 years later we have the absolute best birds. Those birds are strong, restless and clever. They have great bodies, they can give great shows and fall in a very spectacular way.

I used to be a member of the pigeon keepers club in the prefecture of Imathia, as a matter of fact. I was the Vice President, but not any more. I would like to make an announcement: Anyone who wishes to see my pigeons is welcome all year round but especially in winter, from November 10th to April 10th every afternoon and at weekends. Also, on the day of the contest after 13.00 pm in the afternoon. You could also contact me and make an appointment by calling me at 0030 6977 441 441.

I have met people who speak in favor of some birds other without having seen them. These people want to create false impressions, for their our reasons.
Don't trust them! Go and see the birds yourselves!. Personally, I try to go to all contests that take place in Greece, see the pigeons and form my own option. I can't be fooled by those who try impose options and make false impressions.

I suggest you do the same. Not only that but, due to the fact that there are "close groups" in almost every club ask to see birds from other pigeon keepers who don't take part in contests. Maybe you can find the best birds there.
